What is OSTEOPATHIC FITNESS® ?

A brief summary of the development of OSTEOPATHIC FITNESS®

To give you a brief summary of the development of OSTEOPATHIC FITNESS®, it was instigated by my own frustration. Playing High School Football as a wide receiver, I went out for a pass across the middle of the field, I caught the ball and got hit, but didn't go down, dislocating my patella tendon. After this injury, my knee kept subluxing and going out. So, I needed surgery. I wouldn't have needed surgery if I knew the exercises that I know today.

After my football career was over in, a Cross Country race, I collapsed before the finish line. So, I went back to see my Orthopedic surgeon Dr. Nickerson and he diagnoses me with what they call marchers syndrome, where the muscle can get too big for the sheath around it, and he said, “Your leg can explode and die!”. Thankfully, there were some other athletes that recommended me to see a podiatrist, Dr. Gianone, who fitted me for orthotics and gave me the foundational support structure I needed.

After college as a former world class track and field athlete, at age 30, I was diagnosed as having no cartilage in either knee; my orthopedist actually said, “It is a miracle that you can even walk!”.  The problem I faced was how to deal with this physical limitation and the lack of a reference point or map for the journey that I found myself on. While I could help my clients, I could not help myself. I researched and read every book I could get my hands on, and it was a good start, although I needed more of a map to get from where I was, to where I needed and wanted to go.

I have made it my life’s work to study the human ability to change and realized how difficult it is to achieve.  In my 27 years in the business of coaching in the conditioning field I have come to the realization that your only as strong as weakest link. So, with flat feet, a sway back, no cartilage in either knee, OSTEOPATHIC FITNESS® was born.

OSTEOPATHIC FITNESS® aims to improve people’s overall health, fitness, and wellness, by treating the whole person: mentally physically emotionally and nutritionally, not just a condition or challenge they may have. Structure and function are reciprocally interrelated. The body possesses the inherent capacity to repair, and remodel itself. The body is an integrated unit of mind and body.

This involves stretching, strengthening, and massaging, to enhance the musculoskeletal system.

By focusing on prevention, based on the belief that most conditions are related to problems in the musculoskeletal system and that structure and function of the body are related.

Many problems began with structural problems.

These exercises and stretches, Greg believe, allow blood to flow freely throughout the circulatory system. With structure restored, the body's own natural healing powers are able to restore to full health and fitness.

Studies have shown that OSTEOPATHIC FITNESS® is safe and effective for maximum fitness, pain relief of lower back pain, neck pain and it can also relieve migraine.
